About

Dr Cheryl Venart is a BPS and HCPC chartered Health Psychologist with six years of working in mental health settings. Cheryl can work therapeutically with individuals over a range of ages including children (5 years old and above), young people, adults and also offers parental support sessions. Cheryl is also particularly experienced in supporting individuals who are neurodivergent, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Cheryl provides a non-judgemental and warm space where she will guide you through an initial assessment, formulation of your difficulties, complete goal-setting and administer psychological interventions in line with your goals. Through treatment planning, you can expect to be aware of your therapy plan and the number of sessions needed. Your goals can be focused on changing your behaviours, emotional wellbeing, understanding and adjusting to diagnoses, conditions, or injuries. There are a range of situations where you may need therapy or coaching, so reaching out to get the correct support is the first step. Cheryl aims to consider you as a person holistically in line with her training as a Health Psychologist.

Cheryl trained at Glasgow Caledonian University on the Doctorate in Health Psychology, and utilises a range of approaches in her work with you such as; Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Play Therapy, coaching, creative therapies, and a range of neurodivergent-affirmative approaches. During Cheryl’s training, she specialised in supporting individuals with communication difficulties and instils very creative ways of working. Sometimes the work may involve therapy or take a more coaching-based approach which will be discussed. This ensures therapy can be very accessible to her clients, and that therapy and coaching is provided with a heart at all times.

In addition to Cheryl’s therapeutic work, she has run consultancy projects for third-sector organisations, is experienced in providing support groups, supervision and training to different organisations. She has experience of both working in the NHS, Public Health Scotland and in the finance sector where she chaired a network to support individuals with disabilities and mental health conditions. Cheryl has also previously worked with financial organisations to support their employees’ wellbeing and been the forefront of policy changes.

Cheryl is also currently a Lecturer in Health Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University where she supports the training of psychologists on the three cross-domain doctorates, teaches in developmental psychology and provides supervision to support the development of trainee psychologists. Cheryl’s research interests are focused on the experiences of autistic adults, women’s health, coaching interventions and in supporting young people’s wellbeing.
